How much does a small business website cost in 2026?

Ask three US web designers what a small business site costs and you get three numbers, each with a comma in it. Below are published estimates for agency, freelance and do-it-yourself sites, what pushes the number up, and what you keep paying every year after launch.

Price list

Flamingo Agency updated its guide on January 3, 2026. Ask every provider whether hosting, copywriting and revisions are included in the price.

Is $1,500 a good price for a website?

It depends on what the $1,500 buys. It is below the ranges cited above: Flamingo Agency estimates $2,000–4,000 for a basic brochure site, and Studio Mesa estimates $2,000–8,000 for a freelancer. Mark Brinker's 2026 guide puts the going rate for a professional small business site at $5,000–10,000.

So $1,500 for a custom site from a US freelancer sits at the cheap end. For a template with your logo dropped in, it is a lot. Before you agree, ask how many pages are included, who writes the text, whether the first year of hosting is in the price, and who owns the files once you have paid.

What drives the price

"Business website" can mean one page with a phone number or ten pages with a custom design. Four things move the number.

Number of pages

Every page needs its own text and pictures. Brinker's rule of thumb is about $100 for each page beyond what a website package includes. I charge $75–150 for a multi-page site of four to eight pages. Without extras, a site of up to 50 pages never costs more than $200, and each page over 50 adds $3.

Who writes the words

Studio Mesa prices a copywriter at $500–2,000 for a full site's worth of text. If you have no text yet, I write it, and the writing is part of the fixed price you get before work starts.

Shop and extra features

Ask whether the quote includes a cart, card payments and booking. Flamingo Agency's guide estimates an online store at $6,000–15,000+. I build an online shop with up to ten products for $175–200, and a booking calendar adds $50.

Paying every month

A builder is cheap in dollars and expensive in evenings, and it bills for as long as the site is up: Studio Mesa lists a Squarespace Business plan at $396 a year. By Flamingo's count, many businesses budget $50–200 a month for maintenance. For the static sites I build, hosting is free on Cloudflare Pages within its free-plan limits: you pay for the domain renewal, and for changes only when you order them.

What you pay every year

  • A .com domain at Porkbun costs $11.08 a year to register and the same to renew.
  • A static site like the ones I build can be hosted free on Cloudflare Pages. The free plan allows 500 builds a month to publish changes and up to 20,000 files per site.

Why mine costs $50–200

I build the sites myself, with no team and no project manager. Instead of meetings you fill in a short brief, and the site is ready 24 hours after my email confirming I have everything.

I write plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, without WordPress. There are no plugins waiting for updates.

The price list is public: one page $50, four to eight pages $75–150, a shop with up to ten products $175–200. Redoing a site you already have is $100–150.

You pay only after you have seen the finished site live. If you don't like it, you pay nothing. After payment you get the files and the rights to everything I made for the site. Third-party fonts, photos and libraries stay under their own licenses.

Example: 57 pages for €150

WNR Group is an employment agency in Warsaw. The brief arrived on September 21, 2026, and the home page was online about two hours later.

The other pages, the panel and the articles followed over the next two days. On September 23 the site moved to the client's own domain, wnrgroup.work. That is 57 pages in total: 19 each in Polish, Ukrainian and English.

The client paid €150. By our public price list, the same site would cost €221 today: €200 for up to 50 pages and €3 for each of the seven pages over that.

Five questions for any provider

  1. Do I get a written fixed price before work starts?
  2. When do I pay: up front, or after I have seen the finished site?
  3. Who owns the files and the rights once I have paid?
  4. What does year two cost: domain, hosting, plugins, changes?
  5. How many rounds of changes are included, and what does each extra round cost?

My answers are in the terms of work.
